The Authority supports a wide range of musical activity involving pupils from all schools and runs a total of 10 residential music courses at Gartmore House, near Aberfoyle.

Pupils from Primary Schools are offered the opportunity to participate in the Primary Schools Training Orchestra which has a residential course lasting from Friday to Sunday evening, culminating in a performance of the music they have been studying.  In addition to this the Primary Schools Orchestra, which is of a higher standard, offers a week long  residential course in May at Gartmore House. The concert at the end of the rehearsal week takes place in Bishopbriggs Academy.

For pupils of Secondary School age, there is a Jazz Orchestra which rehearses every Wednesday evening.  Additionally, there are two String Orchestras and two Wind Bands which rehearse regularly from October until March. In either discipline there is a training group and one which is of a more advanced standard offering pupils the opportunity to study a wide variety of music in many styles. All these groups have weekend residential courses at Gartmore House and concerts in March. The highest level of performance is offered through the Secondary Schools Orchestra which meets for a week long residential course at the end of June which culminates in a full symphony concert. Additionally, at Christmas time, this orchestra joins with the 250 members of the Primary Schools Choir, and pupils from Merkland School. The resulting concert is the highlight of the school year for all concerned.
